Today anyone can be in business.
There’s a new reality around us. Tools that used to be out of reach are now easily accessible; technology that yesterday cost thousands is now cheap or even free. One worker can do the job of three or, in some cases, an entire department. Business that was unimaginable few years before is now simple to start and maintain. Yet, there is still a number of businesses that fail.
In the business world, failure has become an expected rite of passage. You hear all the time how nine out of ten new businesses fail. You hear that your business's chances are slim to none. Why is that so, with all this technologies and opportunities to new business that fly around at our hands reach? Because opportunities and technologies do not make you safe from making mistakes. Neither can tools solve problems you may have while organizing and managing your company. They are just tools.
You hear that failure builds character. You need to learn from your mistakes. People advise: ‘Fail early and fail often’. Well, this is a misconception. Learning from mistakes is overrated. What do you really learn from mistakes? You might learn what not to do again, but how good is that to you? You still don't know what you should do next. You may want to learn from failures of others. But, … other businesses’ failures are just that: other businesses’ failures. If other people can not manage their business succesfuly, it has nothing to do with you.
Contrast that with learning from your success, and success of others. It's exactly how nature works. Evolution doesn't linger on past failures, it's always building upon what worked. So should you. Now, this may have something to do with you. And with us, too, because we at Comitium are committed to help our clients succeed.
